At Old Warren House we offer weekly one-to-one counselling sessions with a qualified BACP registered therapist who adheres to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy (found at www.bcap.co.uk/ethical-framework), to any pupil who requires this service. We understand the pressure on Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services with long waiting lists and the sometimes urgent need for our pupils to have someone to talk through any worries or distress they may be experiencing, so we offer an in-house Listening Service which pupils can access on a short or long term basis or one off drop-ins. Many of the pupils who attend Old Warren House take time to trust adults and respond well to having a therapist available who they are already familiar with.
Counselling within schools has been shown to bring about significant reductions in psychological distress in the short term and to help young people move towards their personal goals. It provides an opportunity to talk in confidence to a professionally qualified counsellor with the hope of removing any psychological barriers to their learning.
